HERES TO THE CRAZY ONES

HERE’S TO THE CRAZY ONES. THE MISFITS. THE REBELS. THE TROUBLEMAKERS. THE ROUND PEGS IN THE SQUARE HOLES. THE ONES WHO SEE THINGS DIFFERENTLY. THEY’RE NOT FOND OF RULES. AND THEY HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THE STATUS QUO. YOU CAN QUOTE THEM, DISAGREE WITH THEM, GLORIFY OR VILIFY THEM. ABOUT THE ONLY THING YOU CAN’T DO IS IGNORE THEM. BECAUSE THEY CHANGE THINGS. THEY PUSH THE HUMAN RACE FORWARD. AND WHILE SOME MAY SEE THEM AS THE CRAZY ONES, WE SEE GENIUS. BECAUSE THE PEOPLE WHO ARE CRAZY ENOUGH TO THINK THEY CAN CHANGE THE WORLD, ARE THE ONES WHO DO.

ONE FINE NOVEMBER DAY IN 1980

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THESE PHOTOGRAPHS OF MY MUM & DAD FROM THEIR GARDEN WEDDING IN SHOAL BAY, NOVEMBER 1ST, 1980. MY MUM LOOKS SO BEAUTIFUL & MY DAD SO HANDSOME. I LOVE THAT THESE ORIGINAL FILM PHOTOS (TAKEN BY GUESTS BECAUSE THE 14 ROLLS OF FILM THE OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHER TOOK WHERE NOT LOADED INTO HIS CAMERA PROPERLY, SO THE ONLY PICS THEY GOT WERE FROM GUESTS!) LOOK LIKE THE INSTAGRAM EFFECT THAT WE - THE PICTURE TAKERS IN THE DIGITAL AGE, SO FREQUENTLY APPLY TO OUR PHOTOGRAPHS. IN HONOUR OF MY MUM & DADS 31ST WEDDING ANNIVERSARY, I HAVE DECIDED TO MAKE NOVEMBER 1ST, 2011 THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH DATE OF OUR MUCH AWAITED SAMANTHA WILLS BRIDAL COLLECTION. TO MY BEAUTIFUL MUM & HANDSOME DADDY - I LOVE YOU ALWAYS. - SWxx

THE AVENUE PROJECT; NYC

IT LABOUR DAY LONG WEEKEND HERE IN THE USA. WHICH MEANS, IT IS UN-OFFICALLY THE 'LAST' WEEKEND OF SUMMER, SO AS MOST FLOCK OUT TO THE HAMPTONS, I PREFER TO STAY IN THE CITY & ENJOY NEW YORK WITHOUT THE MASSES (OK, THAT IS NOT EVER THE CASE, BUT IN NYC MASSES SENSE, THIS WEEKEND IS PRETTY QUIET). I WAS DOING AN AT HOME DIY PROJECT & NEEDED TO POP OUT TO STAPLE (OFFICE WORKS EQUIVALENT FOR AUS READERS) & DECIDED TO WALK FROM MY PLACE IN MEATPACKING, ALONG 13TH ST, STOPPING AT EVERY AVENUE I CROSSED & CAPTURING A PIC UPTOWN. WHEREVER I AM OFF TO, I ALWAYS HAVE MY IPOD IN. IT GIVES NEW YORK A DIFFERENT SOUNDTRACK EVERYDAY & THRU THE POWER OF MUSIC, DEPENDING ON WHAT I AM LISTENING TO, I HONESTLY SEE THE CITY DIFFERENTLY EACH TIME. TODAY I WAS LISTENING TO GOTYES NEW ALBUM. BELOW ARE MY PHOTOGRAPHS - I LOVE LOOKING UPTOWN & DO S EVERY TIME I CROSS AN AVENUE. THE AVE'S LITERALLY DISAPPEAR INTO NOTHING-NESS, SUCH IS THE GRID & THE STRAIGHT LINE OF NYC AVENUES. NEXT TIME I WILL WALK UPTOWN TO SHOOT DOWN DOWN ANGLES. WITH LOVE FROM NYC - SW

[INSPIRATION] 'UNWRITTEN' LYRICS - NATASHA BEDINGFIELD

I am unwritten,
Can't read my mind.
I'm undefined.

I'm just beginning,
The pen's in my hand.
Ending unplanned.

Staring at the blank page before you,

Open up the dirty window,

Let the sun illuminate the words

That you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance

So close you can almost taste it

Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin

No one else can feel it for you

Only you can let it in

No one else, no one else

Can speak the words on your lips

Drench yourself in words unspoken

Live your life with arms wide open

Today is where your book begins

The rest is still unwritten

.

I break tradition

Sometimes my tries

Are outside the lines

We've been conditioned

To not make mistakes

But I can't live that way, no

Staring at the blank page before you

Open up the dirty window

Let the sun illuminate the words

That you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance

So close you can almost taste it

Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin

No one else can feel it for you

Drench yourself in words unspoken

Live your life with arms wide open

To the years where your book begins

The rest is still unwritten

The rest is still unwritten

[INSPIRATION] MOSAIC

To me mosaics are more then just decorative art displayed through a plethora of tesserae stuck to a wall. Each time I travel I am incoherently drawn to the cultural and spiritual significance behind each design and often stand in wonder at the capabilities of how a simple tile display can enrich its surroundings in living ceramic colour. Nothing has quite taken my breath away like the mosaics in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome but my favourite is the subway station of the Museum of Natural History in New York which covers the stairs and platforms. I love how the creatures of the design are evoked in vignettes that punctuate the stretches of the white tiled wall that millions of people rush through each day, probably only just entering their subconscious - SW
